Review: ‘Old God’s Time’ by Sebastian Barry

Ever since I read ‘The Secret Scripture’ and ‘Days Without End’ by Irish writer and Costa Book of the Year winner Sebastian Barry, I’ve been hooked by his masterful fusion of poetic language and brilliant storytelling. So, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the publication of ‘Old God’s Time’ (Faber & Faber), and it didn’t disappoint. The novel weaves themes of memory and the sins of the Irish church, as we encounter newly retired policeman, Tom Kettle, confronting tragedies from the past. I can’t wait to hear Sebastian Barry interviewed at Faber & Faber’s new location, The Bindery, on 30 May.
